Wynther Wyngard is the daughter of King Wander Wyngard, Lord of the Yorm-Tamers. Along with her father, she is among the first of the ancient House of Wyngard to arrive on the New World. The name Wyngard is a portmanteau from the term “wing guardian”. The House of Wyngard was originally established to guard the eastern border of Nymagaul from winged terrors — dragons. Their many lands were eventually declared hereditary estates, granted sovereignty by a royal decree of King Lancider, and ratified by the Sword of Exaltion. They were also covenanted bound to the Nymguardean kings in perpetuity in their defense of the Eastern-most provinces.
Wynther Wyngard appears as a tall woman with blond-white hair, alabaster complexion, and ice-blue eyes. Despite her lithe appearance, Wynther possesses the legendary strength of the Wyngards. Second only to the D’Arlenes, the Wyngards are feared in battle due to their shield-splintering strength, great speed, endurance and fearlessness.
She has six brothers — Welvarend, Wulver, Wyr, Weyn, Gaxan and Gallant — and one sister named Splendor whom she calls “Gilly”. Her father’s name is Wander, her mother Galea.
In battle she uses a flying great-sword nicknamed Taa Laimé (literally “Tough Luck”).
Early wardens of House Wyngard displayed formidable powers against the Mantichora (magic-bearing creatures) and became legendary hunters of those creatures for millennia. The exact origin of their influence over Manitchora (or Yorm) is shrouded in mystery, but lies in contradistinction to the powers belonging to the House of Morgandy: where the House of Morgan submitted to the authority of dragons, the House of Wyngard rejected it.
